The Roman gladiator festivals were an entertaining series of days which contained comedy acts, plays, and athletic matches, yet the most popular form of entertainment were the battles. The festivals could last for 100 continuous days in which the Roman government seized the opportunity to display their mighty power to the crowd, and the more spectacular the event, the more popular the event was.
The citizens loved to be surprised at the exotic and gory games that their government had constructed for their entertainment. There were battles both between and against exotic animals which had came from the many lands that Rome had conquered during its reign over the Mediterranean along with the execution of prisoners and slaves however, once again the popular events were the gladiator battles. Some were re-enactments designed to display battles which resulted in Roman victory, yet others were simply bloodbaths consisting of gladiators armed to the teeth, and pitted against one another. The games were scheduled down the last minute in order to squeeze in as much entertainment as possible to keep the citizens happy.
